Snowboarding

Today, me and my dad went snowboarding. We were challenging ourselves, whoever fell down less was the winner!

When we got to the mountain I felt both excited and scared at the same time. The thing that really scared me was the lift. I'm not talking about my lift; I'm talking about the experts lift that goes all the way to the tippy. top. of. the. mountain. I was relieved when I found out it wasn't my lift. Before we found our class, I was instead of riding my board, running after my board! There were some patches of grass in the snow. The grass rubbing together sounded like a rattle snake and the wind sounded like an owl. That made me feel good inside; first the frightening sound of the rattlesnake, then the soothing sound of the owl.

My teacher was Shaw. We started out practicing and once we learned how to turn we went down the big hill. Going down the hill, I felt like a cool dude. I felt like I could do anything. Of course, I fell down a few times. And so did my dad! My dad fell four times that time and I fell one. That first time we worked on putting our heel edge into the snow. You put your heel edge into the snow to turn or stop. Then we did the same thing. My dad fell 8 times, and I fell 3. Then we ate lunch.

After we ate lunch, we worked on our toe edge in. I fell down 4 times and my dad fell down 10! While I was getting up on the lift, Shaw told me that they actually make snow using water, air, a chemical, and cold. Isn't that amazing!? The snow comes out of either a snow tower or a snow gun.

The last time down the hill, we practiced the same thing except I learned that I have to pretend that I am riding a motorcycle to go in the right position. Then we went home.

Oh, did I tell you about the view? It seemed as if there was going to be an avalanche of either trees or rocks because the trees were almost completely slanted and the rocks looked as if they could break off the mountain just the second they were made. The most amazing thing was that I saw a skeleton head that was shaped in the snow. Then we bought a juice and then when we got home we took a bath to relax our muscles. I couldn't stop my teeth from chattering!!

  • That sounds like a lot of fun! Are you sore? The first (and only) time I went snowboarding I got home exhausted and sore everywhere. But I had fun, just like you. Well, I fell down much more times than you though. Where did you go?
